Single storey rear extension in Southville, Bristol
This single-storey rear extension in Southville, Bristol, was designed to create a bright and open kitchen and living space that feels modern, airy, and closely connected to the garden. The aim was to enhance light and flow within a compact terraced home.
The extension features a flat roof and a striking glass corner with bifold doors, carefully designed to maximise the beautiful views across Bristol. This creates an uninterrupted visual connection to the garden and skyline, allowing natural light to become a defining part of the interior experience.
Inside, the ground floor layout was reconfigured to remove the central chimney and form an open-plan kitchen, dining, and sitting area. A practical utility room was also incorporated at the rear, accommodating a toilet, washing machine, and boiler while keeping the main living space uncluttered and efficient.
This project demonstrates how considered design can transform a traditional terraced home, introducing light, openness, and a renewed sense of connection to the outdoors.
