This single-storey rear extension and garage conversion in Henleaze, Bristol, transformed a detached family home into a brighter and more practical living space. The design focused on improving natural light, functionality, and the overall flow of the ground floor to better suit modern living.
The new extension features a pitched roof with skylights that fill the interior with light throughout the day, while bifold doors open onto the garden to create a seamless indoor–outdoor connection. Inside, the ground floor was reconfigured to include a welcoming new hall with an open staircase, a practical utility room, and a bathroom formed within part of the former garage.
At the rear, the open-plan kitchen, dining, and living areas now come together as the bright, social heart of the home - a comfortable and inviting space for family life. This project shows how thoughtful design can enhance both comfort and functionality, creating a home that feels warm, practical, and full of natural light.
