Light, Space, and Modern Living for a Terraced Home
Compact terraced homes in Southville can feel constrained, but thoughtful architectural design in Bristol can completely transform them. This single-storey rear extension demonstrates how careful planning and creative use of space can introduce light, flow, and modern functionality to a traditional home.
Project Overview
The brief was to create a bright and open kitchen and living area while improving connection to the garden. The new extension features a flat roof and a striking glazed corner with bifold doors, offering uninterrupted views across the garden and Bristol skyline. These elements allow natural light to define the interior and create a sense of spaciousness.
Open-Plan Living and Functional Design
Inside, the ground floor was reconfigured to remove the central chimney and create a continuous kitchen, dining, and sitting area. A practical utility room was incorporated at the rear to accommodate a toilet, washing machine, and boiler, keeping the main living space uncluttered. This approach reflects how architects plans for a house extension can balance everyday functionality with style.
Maximising Light and Views
The combination of full-height glazing and strategic layout ensures that daylight floods every corner of the home. This is a prime example of architect plans for a home extension that enhance both the aesthetic and practical qualities of a property. The design connects the interior to the outdoors, making the garden feel like an extension of the living space.
Architectural Plans and Design Approach
From initial concept through to detailed architectural plans, this project illustrates my approach as an architect in Bristol — designing homes that are light, practical, and visually engaging. Each element, from glazing to room layout, was carefully considered to create a harmonious and functional home.
