Bright, Practical Living for a Family-Friendly Home
This semi-detached home in Southmead, North Bristol, has been transformed through thoughtful architectural design in Bristol. As an architect in Bristol, my aim was to replace an outdated, poorly insulated extension with a modern, light-filled space that enhances everyday living and connects seamlessly to the garden.
Project Overview
The existing rear extension offered limited usability and no real connection to the outdoors. The new single-storey rear and side extension introduces a flat-roof structure with a central lantern skylight, flooding the open-plan kitchen, dining, and sitting area with natural light. Wide bifold doors open onto the garden, creating a smooth flow between indoors and outdoors — ideal for family life and entertaining

Open-Plan Living and Functional Flow
The ground floor layout was reconfigured to maximise space and usability. The side extension, with a pitched roof, accommodates a new bathroom with shower and a corridor linking the garage to the rear garden, improving circulation throughout the home. This demonstrates how architect plans for a home extension can combine style, comfort, and practicality in every corner of the house.
Open-Plan Living in Bristol
Light, Space, and Family Living

A central lantern skylight and full-width glazing create a sense of openness while bringing daylight deep into the home. This project shows how carefully considered architectural plans and architects plans for a house extension can transform compact or outdated areas into welcoming, family-friendly living spaces.
